Kyushu Jangara Ramen has been a fixture of the Harajuku dining scene for decades, serving up bowls of deeply satisfying Kyushu-style tonkotsu ramen from its colourful shop on Meiji-dori. The pork-bone broth is the star — slow-simmered until velvety and full-bodied — and you can choose between the richer 'kotedori' style and a lighter, more delicate version depending on your preference.

Toppings are generous and traditional: melt-in-the-mouth chashu pork, marinated soft-boiled eggs, wood ear mushrooms and pickled ginger all make appearances. The menu also includes smaller portions and side dishes, making it a solid option if you fancy something less filling. The atmosphere is bustling and informal, with counter seating that keeps things lively.

The shop is conveniently situated near the junction of Meiji-dori and Takeshita-dori, making it an easy pit-stop while exploring the neighbourhood. Queues can build at lunchtime, but they move steadily. English menus are available, and both cash and electronic payment are accepted.
